Kyle Trefny

Research & Operations Manager

Hi! My name is Kyle Trefny (he/him). I’m a white settler person of Jewish and West European descent, born and raised in San Francisco, CA on Ramaytush Ohlone lands. At FireGen, I like organizing community events, tangling and untangling questions and stories through research and art, and supporting our work with grants!

I’m a seasonal wildland firefighter, and also enjoy participating in community burns. I graduated from University of Oregon (UO) in 2024 with degrees in Economics and Chinese. Alongside FireGen, I work as a researcher at UO’s Ecosystem Workforce Program. I have a background in the arts, and actively love making animated short films, murals, t-shirts, books, paintings, banners, etc. I also love watching birds, sports, hiking, and spending time with my partner, friends, and family.

I believe in solutions that center Indigenous sovereignty, create good livelihoods, and realize the agency, needs, and desires of impacted communities, the more-than-human world, and future generations. I’m also bi/queer and prioritize a fire space in which all people can belong, be themselves, and shape solutions.
